The Campos Racing driver finished second in Saturday’s Sprint Race, securing another podium finish.
On Sunday, Martí crossed the line in fifth place in the Feature Race, further consolidating his presence in the championship fight, where he currently holds second place.
“A very positive weekend once again — overall, I’m quite happy. We've come away with two top-five finishes and some important points for the overall standings.”
Pepe Martí continues to show his consistency in the early stages of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season. At the demanding street circuit of Jeddah, the Spanish driver delivered another strong performance, securing an impressive second place in Saturday’s Sprint Race and finishing fifth in Sunday’s Feature Race.
After a solid qualifying session on Friday, where he placed seventh, Pepe earned a spot on the second row for the Sprint Race thanks to the reverse grid rule for the top ten. A penalty for another driver eventually promoted him to third on the starting grid.
In the Sprint Race, the Campos Racing driver demonstrated strong pace from the outset, remaining among the frontrunners throughout the 20-lap contest. He put in a great drive and, despite having to defend his podium position at times, he crossed the line in third — which became a brilliant second place following a penalty for the race leader.
“A very positive weekend once again — overall, I’m quite happy. We’ve picked up two top-five finishes and some important points for the championship. We're currently second, a bit behind the leader by 12 points, but at this stage of the season being close means we’re doing a good job,” said the Red Bull Junior Team driver.
“Free practice on Friday went decently — we finished ninth. Then, in qualifying, I made a small mistake that stopped us from being in the top five. In the end, P7 was a pretty good result, although it could’ve been better had I finished the lap cleanly. In the Sprint Race, I had a good start and, after a few strong laps, moved up to second. Later, I made a small mistake and lost third place, so I had to defend hard for fourth, using everything I had to regain and hold onto third — which wasn’t easy. The race leader got a penalty, and that promoted me to second. With the pace we had, we could’ve done even more, but I’m still pleased with the result and the race overall.”
On Sunday, in a more strategic Feature Race, Martí held his starting position of P7 off the line, looking for the right moments to attack. However, a small issue during his pit stop cost him valuable seconds. Despite this, he mounted an impressive comeback, executing several key overtakes to finish fifth — a result that adds valuable points and highlights his ability to remain competitive at the front.
“Today was a better race. Starting seventh, I managed to hold my position early on and made a couple of good overtakes. Unfortunately, we had a small issue during the pit stop, losing about four seconds in the pit lane. Given the circumstances, we put together a strong recovery — two very good overtakes helped me get back up to fifth. Without the pit stop problem, we probably could’ve fought for another podium. Still, we can be proud — we were competitive all weekend in changing conditions, at different times of day, and with varying track temperatures. I’m really happy and leave for the break with my head held high, ready to prepare for the triple-header coming up in Imola, Monte Carlo and Barcelona,” Martí said after Sunday’s race.
With these results, Pepe Martí cements himself as one of the most consistent drivers at the start of the season, remaining firmly in the upper part of the standings. His performance in Jeddah further strengthens his position as a serious title contender and underlines his continued development in the category. He leaves Jeddah second in the championship with 41 points, just 12 behind the leader.
